my names James Mason & i’m unspeakably evil!

25 Jun

i seem to end up wandering the Southbank a lot recently…on tuesday i spent a very lovely summers evening picnicing outside the tate…then wandering down to the BFI, seeing spotty tree’s en route, for a quite pint in the BFI bar before heading indoors for a special screening of North by Northwest a Hitchcock thriller, romance classic!! and now all i’m concerned about is perfecting the James Mason ultimate baddie voice…..Cary Grants one was too hard to master!

i lurrrve south bank

21 Jun

i spent a lovely Saturday with Seb in one of my favourite food markets, Borough Market near London Bridge…with every kind of fruit, vegetable, meat, fish, cheese or baked goodies you could ever wish for huddled under railway bridges. we could not decide what to go for first….so just grabbed whatever took our fancy…venison burgers, smoked prawns, honey & lavender ice cream and the sweetest little strawberries! Seb was also digging into the Oysters…something i’ve never tried & apparently will have to & will LOVE very soon. Although this is promised along side champagne so i think that’s what’s selling it to me!!

We also had a wander down the south bank & popped into the Tate Modern…although we were very naughty & only went to the shop to lust after gorgeous art & design books….i promise to look at the actual art next time!!

gin soaked

15 Jun
well i’ve had an exhausting weekend…mainly social bumming about in the beautiful weather!
on friday it was my local in Camden’s (where i work) 2nd birthday party, (the Prince Albert on Royal College street ) there was free wine (well we thought it was free, it appears it wasn’t & we had stolen it), free shots or tequila, canapes, birthday cake & a live jazz band…..
what was thought to be free wine...turned out we actually stole it
although the selection of glasses that my g&t’s arrived in got more interesting as the night went on…..by the end of the night i was drinking them out of pint glasses!!!
pint 'o gin
on saturday night i was out bowling in the all star lanes & running from bar to bar in Bricklane, and drinking exceedingly expensive g&t’smore ginnage
then on to sunday which was dedicated to cider…in massive glasses!

this weekend i have been mostly…

7 Jun

for the first time in weeks i’ve had a weekend not ram packed with birthdays, family visits, rehearsals & desperate costume sourcing. After a trip out on Shirley & another trip to Ikea with Roh, i settled down to work on all the alterations i have left to pile up by my sewing machine, taking things in (with i much prefer to letting things out, it usually means i’m getting to be a bit of a skinny minny), changing zips and altering the sleeves on a top i bought from Hoss Intropia in Lanzerote the year before last.

I had never really liked the sleeves & this had always but me off wearing it, so i sewed some elastic around the sleeve, gathering in the excess fabric & boom there you are cute little puff sleeve on a cute folky cotton top…

new sleeve

also after letting the whole teen obession for the Twiglight books & film completely pass me by Roh has insisted i start reading the books before i see the film, i didn’t even wait to finish the book i am 3/4 of the way through, i am engrossed already, so don’t expect me to surface until i’ve finished them all!

Oh & one final mention, about a very sweet retro present i received from a special new friend of mine, he got it in Brighton after discovering my love of Polaroid…although as you may or may not know Polaroid have stopped making the instant camera film, so getting cartridges for my first camera & now this old school beauty is a tricky business….

retro instamatik

Polaroid snaps always remind me of a very carefree time at college in Cornwall & at Uni in Kent with my dearest friends, never a bad photo was taken & the instantly printed pictures are like wonderful keepsake memories i keep in a box to be taken out to remind me that life is not always about responsibilities & hard work, but that it can be fun & very very silly too!

birthday list

3 Jun

i think for the next month this is going to become my online birthday list……i am not ashamed & won’t be upset if i get none of the things posted, it reminds me of when i was a kid & the run up to birthdays & Christmas was the time for endlessly making present lists to leave lying around for my mum to find…& then ignore because it was too expensive…today is the turn of Urban Outfitters…

1 Jun

Well my first foray into theatre costume is completed, after an incredibly successful yet brief 4 shows over the last few days we all let off steam at the after show party with a 70’s theme, Snowballs, mini scotch eggs and disco music a plenty!

I have already been asked to do the costumes for an upcoming production of “the Lark” a drama about Joan of Arc with a twist in the tale. So I’d better get onto my medieval garb research!

Back to “round & round the garden” though, here’s a few of the pictures from the performances, so you can see my costumes in their full glory! The actress playing Ruth I think is planning to steal the Orange jumpsuit as she loved it so much!
